How I used UX Writing to help psychologists and patients in a simple and concise way.

This article is part of the Case “my Conscious, uniting patients and psychologists”.

The challenge

In December 2020, I joined the time of UX Designers and accepted the challenge of helping to improve the mental health of Brazilians through the use of telemedicine.

How to take advantage of telemedicine opportunities to improve the health of Brazilians who need psychological or psychiatric help?

UX Writing

During our first usability test, still in low-fidelity prototypes, we noticed that some users had difficulties to understand some texts, and for this reason we decided to apply UX Writing.

Word Analysis

To better understand the language of users, we take the results of qualitative research that we have done and use the WordCloud tool to identify the words most used by our users.

Based on this analysis we realize that:

  • Most patients find their psychologist by referral
  • Time saving is a benefit of remote therapy
  • Safe place is a concern of patients and psychologists
  • WhatsApp is the alternative most used by patients, but it is also the one that psychologists most complain about

Analysis of the text

In order to be able to place the best text within the areas of onboarding, personalization and the CVV button on the application home, we use the UX Writing Hemingway tool. As much as the tool does not work directly for the Portuguese language, it helps in the understanding of our text, its readability and understanding by the user and qualifies our text.

We thus found a textual structure that assists the user with an intuitive, clear and objective text form, making him understand with a low probability of risks of being confused in relation to what we are informing.

We think of friendly texts, with direct and simple language, since patients who must be users of “Meu Consciente” can have the most diverse levels of understanding of the cultured norms and grammar, and can be a user who also has a difficulty with online platforms.

Usability Test focused on UX Writing

The usability test was carried out with 24 users using the prototype inserted on the maze.co.

The task that users had was:

  • Schedule an appointment with Bianca and after the consultation make an assessment of the professional
  • Through this test we realized that:
  • Users had difficulty understanding what the “CBT” approach would be like on the professional profile screen
  • On the payments page, some users did not understand what “Card No.” and “Cardholder Name” would be
  • It is not explicit on the payment screen whether the payment method with the card is debit or credit
  • Some users have suggested replacing the term “Calendar” with “Agenda”
